BLACK HISTORY
Celebrate Black History by learning the incredible history of the Underground Railroad, secret meeting houses, and heroes who fought for the freedom of all. Walk the Portland Freedom Trail and visit several sites throughout Portland that played a significant role in the history of Emancipation of African-Americans.
FUNDRAISER TO RESTORE THE
Abyssinian Meeting House
Join us for a fundraiser to support the restoration of the Abyssinian Meeting House, the third oldest standing African American meeting house in the United States.
Built in 1828, the building served as a church and a segregated public school, as well as a hall for concerts, dinners and entertainment. Its members and preachers included former enslaved people, leaders of the Underground Railroad movement, and outspoken advocates for the abolition of slavery in the United States.
5% of all sales from both bakeries on February 25th and 26th will be donated to the Abyssinian Meeting House.

All donations will be distributed by Maine Needs to families and individuals throughout Maine.
